About Verjean

Verjean has been involved with dogs, literally, her whole life.  Her father had Boxers and Cocker Spaniels when she was growing up, and she got her “own” dog at the age of seven.  That dog named “Cougar”, a little mixed breed, was to live until the age of nineteen and was her first experience in dog training!

Verjean has a varied background in dogs, having trained in Obedience, Schutzhund, Therapy, Field, Conformation, and most recently, Freestyle Obedience (doggie dancing). She has experience with several breeds, and has owned German Shepherd Dogs, Shar-Pei, Bearded Collies, Old English Sheepdogs, Weimaraners, Rottweilers, Dobermans, Great Danes, and Chinese Pugs.  She has been honored to be the emcee for the “Dancing With The Dogs” show presented at the Texas State Fair the past two years. She is heavily involved in both the “sport” and the “joy” of dogs and proudly lists among her current associations:

  • Great Dane Club of Greater Dallas – Past President, Board of Directors, Delegate to the South Central Division of the GCDA
  • Trinity Vally Weimaraner Club – Past President
  • Trinity Valley Shih-Tzu Club – Founding member
  • Greater Collin Kennel Club – Show Chair, Board of Directors, Rescue Parade Chair
  • Lone Star State Classic (two major all-breed show events per year) – Cluster Committee
  • Great Dane Angel Network – Member, AKC affiliated rescue – Great Danes
  • North American Shar-Pei Rescue – Member, AKC affiliated rescue – Chinese Shar-Pei

Her very first “show” dog, a Great Dane, CH Socalco United We Stand, CGC, “Dylan”, was completely owner/handled.  He holds both an American and International Championship with multiple BOB and Group placements.   She is currently showing his granddaughter, Calypso’s Not Ready To Make Nice, “Maddie”, and she is already major-pointed. She has handled professionally for clients, and has finished many champions, and still handles on a very limited basis, depending upon scheduling. She and her husband, Steve, have also been owned by Weimaraners over the years. Their Weims have enjoyed field work as well as being “show” dogs, and there is one titled Junior Hunter, and another in-training. They have also been open to rescues and mixed breeds as well, and Verjean is what is commonly referred to in the “rescue” world, as a “foster failure”…as in most cases over the years, she has adopted the fosters! She works with local rescue organizations helping with temperament evaluations, and in pulling dogs from shelters and transporting to wherever they need to go.  They have also shared their lives with a rescued Weimaraner, “Shadow”, and a Pug named Puggles, and a little Pug/Pomerian mix named PJ. ALL the Lunendogs, regardless of pedigree, have obtained their Canine Good Citizen certificates. Verjean is a huge supporter of the owner/handler, and her goal is to bring more owner/handlers into the sport, and to help them be competitive and successful.  Her skills with both dogs and people translate into confidence and knowledge in whatever field of endeavor those competing wish to pursue.
